This article will show you how to configure your Facebook app and enable Facebook Login and Register on your Placester site.

You may now enable login and registration for your customers by only using their Facebook account. This will simplify their registration and login process.

Facebook

To enable Facebook Login and Register on your Placester site, you first need to configure your Facebook App.

It is highly recommended to launch your site before doing social login configuration. Facebook bot might flag your site as inaccessible and won’t allow you to make your app live.
  1. Go to https://developers.facebook.com/apps/.
  2. Log in with your Facebook credentials.
  3. Click on the “Create App” button and choose the “Consumer” app type.
  1. If you see the message “Become a Facebook Developer”, then you need to click on the green “Register Now” button, fill out the form and verify your account.
  2. Fill in “App Display Name” and “App Contact Email”. The specified “App Display Name” will appear to users who will choose Facebook while signing up on your Placester site! We recommend using the title of your site.
  3. Click the “Create App” button and complete the Security Check.
  4. Find “Facebook Login” and click “Set Up”.
  5. Select “Web” and in the “Site URL” field, type your website’s URL.  Press “Save”.
  6. Click on the “Settings” option on the left side, under “Products – Facebook Login
  7. Inside the “Valid OAuth redirect URIs” field, you should once again type your website’s URL. Toggle on “Login with Javascript SDK”. Enter your website’s URL into Allowed Domains for Javascript SDK. Click on “Save Changes”.
  8. On the top left side, click on the “Settings” menu point, then click “Basic”.
  9. Enter your domain used in Placester in the “App Domains” field. Domain is an URL without https:// and www.
  10. Fill up the “Privacy Policy URL” field. Provide a publicly available and easily accessible privacy policy that explains what data you are collecting and how you will use that data. If you don’t have one, you will need to create it, and then publish it on your Placester website.
  11. At “User Data Deletion”, choose the “Data Deletion Instructions URL” option, and enter the URL of your page* with the instructions on how users can delete their accounts on your site. In Placester, you can delete user data manually in your CRM, and this is what should happen after a lead will reach out to you asking to delete his or her account.
  12. Select a “Category”, an “App Icon” and pick the “App Purpose” option that describes your App the best, then press “Save Changes”.
  13. By default, your application only has Standard access for the permissions, which is not enough for Facebook Login. On the left side, click on “App Review”, then click “Permissions and Features”. In the table, you will find the “public_profile” and “email” permissions, and you should click on the “Get Advanced Access” buttons next to them.
  1. On the left side, click on the “Facebook Login” button and click on the settings button next. You will be redirected to the OAuth settings page. Under “Valid OAuth Redirect URIs” and “Allowed Domains for the JavaScript SDK”  add https://[yourwebsiteURL]. The next step is to click on the toggle “Login with the JavaScript SDK”. Make sure that you have filled the URL inputs and toggle is marked as “Yes” and click blue “Save changes” button.

  1. Your application is currently private, which means that only you can log in with it. In the top bar, switch the “App Mode” from “Development” to “Live”.
  2. On the top left side, click on the “Settings” menu point, then click “Basic”. At the top of the page you can find your “App ID” and you can see your “App secret” if you click on the “Show” button.
  3. Now update fields “App ID” and “App Secret” in the Customizer.
