Submitting your Sitemap to Google

Katherine Ramirez Updated by Katherine Ramirez

The article below will walk you through how to submit your Placester sitemap to Google.

Why do I want to submit a sitemap?

Your Placester website has thousands of indexable pages, and submitting your sitemap helps Google crawl those. This ultimately helps Google, and users, find your site.

You'll need a Google Webmaster Tools account to submit your sitemap to Google. Once you've signed up for an account, you'll need to verify your Placester site.

Finding your Placester sitemap

To find the sitemap of your Placester site, you'll need to log in to your dashboard at Placester.com. On the dashboard, click the 3 dts next to the Update your site button and click View sitemap from the dropdown.

You'll see a page that looks similar to the one below. Copy the name of the sitemap from the end of the URL (highlighted by the blue box).

Adding your Sitemap to Google

In your Google Webmaster Tools account, select the site you want to submit your sitemap for, then, in the left-hand menu, click Crawl > Sitemaps.

Click the red Add/Test Sitemap in the top right of that page and enter the sitemap link to the box - the sitemap_index.xml you copied earlier. You can choose to either test or submit the sitemap.

Once you've submitted the sitemap, you're all set. It may take a few hours to get out of the pending status, but once it does, Google will be able to crawl your site more effectively to identify your pages.
