Site Verification for Google, Pinterest, and Bing [Classic]

Katherine Ramirez Updated by Katherine Ramirez

The article below will walk you through how to verify your site with Google, Pinterest, and Bing.

What is Site Verification?

Some services ask that you verify ownership of your site before you can access all of their tools. Site verification won't affect your site's performance in most search engines.

How to get your verification code from Google

You will first need to navigate to Google console here. You will need to then log into your Google account if you aren't already. Click on start now to proceed to the verification page.

Under the "URL Prefix" section, enter your web address into the space provided and then click continue.

Scroll down to the HTML tag section. You do not need to copy the entire code, just the series of numbers and letters at the end of the sequence.

This is the code you will be adding to your Placester site settings.

How to get your verification code on Pinterest

To obtain your Pinterest code you will need to log into your account and click on the profile button in the upper righthand corner.

You will then want to click on the lug nut/gear icon to access your settings.

Once you have done this, proceed to the Profile section. In order to obtain the code you need, you will need to click on confirm website next to your web address.

You can then copy the code provided by Pinterest, and add it to your Placester site.   Like with Google, you may only be able to select the whole HTML tag. In that case, copy it, paste it in a browser or blank text document and then copy the code in between the inverted commas after content=.

How to get your site verification on Bing

Bing has a very simple interface to find your code.  As with Google, you will first need to sign up for Bing webmaster tools.  Once you have created your Microsoft account or logged in if you already have an existing account, you will be prompted to add your site to the webmaster platform.

Important note:  If you have not completed your Microsoft profile you will be prompted to do so, you will not be able to proceed if the profile is not complete.  Once you have added your site address you will be asked if you want to submit a sitemap, this is an optional step. You then will need to click on the add button once more.

Now needed verification ID will automatically appear. Like with Google, you may only be able to select the whole HTML tag. In that case, copy it, paste it in a browser or blank text document and then copy the code in between the inverted commas after content=.

Scroll down to the "More" section and click on Site Verification.

Enter your verification codes to the panel. Once you've added the ones you want, click Save. Go back to the service you're verifying and click the Verify button on that page.

The service you're verifying should let you know whether or not the verification was successful.
