Google One Tap Sign-In

In this article, we will guide you through the Google One Tap sign-in feature on Placester sites. This feature allows visitors who are already signed into Google to seamlessly sign in to your site with just a single click. By understanding how it works and how to customize it, you can enhance your lead capture and tracking capabilities without any complicated setup.

What is Google One Tap Sign-In?

Google One Tap is a lightweight sign-in prompt that appears in the top-right corner of a Placester site when a visitor is already signed into Google in their browser. With a single click, the visitor can sign in to your site — no form to fill out, and no redirect to a separate login page. This prompt runs through a secure Placester sign-in service, ensuring that visitors never leave your site and that their Google credentials are handled safely.

Why Google One Tap Matters

  • Frictionless sign-in: Visitors who are logged into Google can authenticate in one click instead of filling out a registration form.
  • Works without extra setup: You do not need your own Google Cloud project for One Tap to function; Placester handles the configuration.
  • Better lead tracking: Once signed in, visitor activity can be linked to a known lead record, providing insights into their engagement.
  • Higher conversion rates: More signed-in visitors result in more identifiable leads with email, name, and activity history.
  • Secure by design: Google sign-in is verified on Placester's side, ensuring secure session handling without exposing raw Google credentials.

How Google One Tap Works for Visitors

  1. A visitor who is not signed in opens any page on your Placester site.
  2. If they are signed into Google in their browser, a One Tap card appears in the top-right corner.
  3. The visitor clicks their Google account (alternatively, they can click on the 'X' button to dismiss the prompt).
  4. Placester logs in the lead for the correct site and signs the visitor in.
  5. The page reloads, and the visitor can now see their account menu, save searches, and favorite listings.
  6. If they dismiss the prompt, it closes, and they can still sign in later via the sign-in popup.

How Agents Can Customize Google One Tap

You can customize the Google One Tap feature by following these steps:

  1. Open the site in the Sites Customizer and go to General Options.
  2. Scroll to Social Login.
  3. Find the toggle labeled "Enable Google One Tap prompt".
  4. Turn it off if you do not want the prompt to appear on your site (it is on by default).

For additional options regarding the "Continue with Google" button on sign-in forms, refer to the same Google Login section in the Customizer.

Verifying Google One Tap is Working

To ensure that Google One Tap is functioning correctly, perform the following checks:

  1. Open your site on Staging as a visitor not signed in to the site.
  2. Ensure you are signed into Google in your browser.
  3. Load any public page and confirm the One Tap card appears.
  4. Click an account; the page should reload, and the visitor should be signed in.
  5. Browse listings to ensure activity is recorded in the CRM.
