Switching Between AI and Point-And-Click Editing

Placester’s website editor gives you two ways to update your site: describe the result you want with AI or select an element and edit it manually using point-and-click controls.

Both methods are available in the same workspace, so you can move between them as you work. You might use AI to rewrite an entire section, then use point-and-click editing to adjust a button color or refine a headline.

When to use AI editing

AI editing is useful when you want to describe an outcome instead of changing each element individually.

You can use AI to:

  • Rewrite content for a specific audience
  • Update messaging across multiple pages
  • Create a new page or blog post
  • Adapt your website to a new market
  • Replace or generate images and videos
  • Refresh the overall style of your website
  • Suggest improvements when you’re unsure where to begin

You can ask AI for help in two ways:

  • Select Ask AI from the top navigation for broader page or website updates.
  • Select an element on the page and click the sparkle button to ask AI to update that specific element.

Enter your instructions in the AI chat panel. AI may ask follow-up questions or provide several suggestions to help you reach the right result.

Review the proposed change before applying it to your website.

When to use point-and-click editing

Point-and-click editing gives you direct control over individual elements on your website. It works well for quick, specific changes when you already know exactly what you want to update.

You can use point-and-click editing to:

  • Rewrite a headline or paragraph
  • Replace an image
  • Update button text, links or colors
  • Adjust the appearance of a section
  • Change available layout or design settings
  • Drag sections to change their position on the page
  • Remove sections you no longer need

To make a manual change, select the element you want to update directly on the page. Choose the relevant editing option, such as the palette button, and use the available controls to make your changes. The available editing options will depend on the type of element you select.

You can reorganize a page by dragging sections into a new position or remove sections you no longer need. These changes can be made directly on the page without asking AI for help.

Moving between AI and point-and-click editing

You don’t need to choose one editing method for your entire website. You can move between AI and point-and-click editing at any time.

For example, you could:

  1. Select Ask AI and ask it to rewrite your homepage for first-time homebuyers.
  2. Review and apply the suggested changes.
  3. Select the new headline directly on the page and refine the wording manually.
  4. Select a button and adjust its text or color using the point-and-click controls.
  5. Review the complete page and publish your changes.

This gives you the speed of AI while keeping direct control over the final result.

Publishing your changes

AI and point-and-click changes are made within the same editing workspace.

Your changes are not visible to website visitors until you publish them. Review the updated website, then select Publish to make your changes live.

FAQs

Which editing method should I use?

Use AI when you want help creating content, exploring ideas or making broader changes. Use point-and-click editing when you want direct control over a specific element.

You can combine both methods during the same editing session.

Can I use AI to update a single element?

Yes. Select the element you want to update and click the sparkle button. You can then describe how you want AI to change that element.

Can I edit AI-generated content manually?

Yes. After AI applies a change, select the updated element directly on the page and use the point-and-click controls to refine it.

Can AI make changes across multiple pages?

Yes. Select Ask AI from the top navigation and describe the broader change you want to make.

For example:

Update the messaging across my website to focus on luxury home sellers in Miami.

AI will analyze your request and identify the relevant content and pages.

Are changes published automatically?

No. Changes only become visible on your live website after you select Publish.

Can I discard a change before publishing?

Yes. Review AI-generated and manual changes before publishing and discard any updates you don’t want to keep.

Can I still access the Codeless Customizer?

Yes. Select More from the top navigation, then choose Legacy Customizer.

The Codeless Customizer is separate from the AI and point-and-click editing options available in the new workspace.
