Forwarding Leads and Blocking Form Spam

Using the Legacy Customizer? Legacy Customizer steps

When a visitor fills in a form on your website, Placester sends you an email about the new lead. In Site Edit you can send a copy of that email to more addresses, and choose how your forms block spam. Your changes go into a draft. They work on your live site after you publish.

Open the site settings

  1. Select Dashboard in the top menu.
  2. On the site card, select EDIT SITE. Site Edit opens with your homepage.
  3. Select Settings in the top bar, then select the Site tab.

The Settings panel on its Site tab

  1. Settings: Opens the Settings panel.
  2. Site: Shows the settings that apply to the whole site.
  3. Lead forwarding: Opens the list of extra addresses that get your lead emails.

Forward leads to more addresses

The lead emails go to the Email in your Contact Details settings. To change that address, see Updating Your Contact and Office Details.

To send a copy to more people, such as a team member or an assistant, select Lead forwarding.

Lead forwarding with no addresses yet

  1. Add another email: Adds a box for one more address.

Select Add another email. A new address box appears. Type the email address in it. Select Add another email again for each address you want to add. To delete an address, select × next to its box.

Choose spam protection

Select ‹ next to the panel title to go back to the list. Scroll down and select Form spam protection.

The Form spam protection settings

  1. Math Problem: Asks the visitor to solve a small sum. Needs no setup.
  2. reCAPTCHA v2: Uses the Google "I'm not a robot" check.
  3. reCAPTCHA v3: Uses Google reCAPTCHA v3, which scores each visitor without a check box.

Math Problem is selected by default. To use Google reCAPTCHA, you need your own reCAPTCHA keys.

Use Google reCAPTCHA

  1. In your Google reCAPTCHA admin console, register your site for the reCAPTCHA type you want. Google gives you a site key and a secret key.
  2. In Site Edit, select reCAPTCHA v2 or reCAPTCHA v3.
  3. Paste the two keys into their boxes.

reCAPTCHA v2 settings

  1. Site Key: The public key from your Google reCAPTCHA admin page.
  2. Secret Key: The private key from the same page.
  3. Widget Theme (v2 only): A light or dark check box.
  4. Widget Size (v2 only): A normal or compact check box.

With reCAPTCHA v3, you also choose how strict the check is.

reCAPTCHA v3 settings

  1. Score Threshold: How strict the check is. Lower is stricter.

The choices go from 0.1 - Very Strict to 0.9 - Very Lenient. 0.5 - Balanced is the default. A stricter setting blocks more bots, but it can also block real visitors.

Publish your changes

Each change goes into your draft. The draft bar at the bottom of Site Edit shows the number of changed site settings, with Discard and Publish. Select Publish to make your changes work on your live site, or Discard to undo all of the draft.

For more about drafts, see Publishing and Discarding Drafts.
