How to Enable Upgraded Property Search on Your Website?

Upgraded Property Search is off by default on existing Placester websites. If you want your website users to get the modern right-side filter panel instead of the old horizontal filter bar, you'll need to turn it on. New Placester websites come with it turned on already.

Turn on Upgraded Property Search in the Traditional Customizer

1. Go to Listings > Search Results Page.

2. Find the Filter layout control and choose Sidebar. (Your two options are Classic and Sidebar. Classic is what your site is using today.)

3. Preview the change and click Publish.

That's it. Buyers visiting your Search Results Page will now see filters open in a panel on the right side of the screen, with a price histogram and a live "See X homes" count.

Switch back to Classic

Changed your mind? You can switch back at any time:

  1. Go to Listings > Search Results Page in the Customizer.
  2. Set Filter layout back to Classic.
  3. Click Publish.

Your site returns to the original horizontal filter bar. Nothing about your listings or saved searches changes when you switch layouts.

These aren't part of Upgraded Property Search, but they affect the same page and are worth a look while you're in there:

  • Results layout. Grid-only, map and grid, or pagination vs. load-more. Works the same as it did with Classic.
  • AI Search placement. If AI Search is turned on for your site, you can choose where it sits relative to the filter panel: above the filters, below the form, or beside the submit button.
  • Global filters. The MLS-scoped filter dropdowns you've already set up in the Customizer still apply with Sidebar turned on.
  • Saved search. No change. Buyers can still save their searches from the Search Results Page.

Note: Upgraded Property Search itself doesn't let you add or remove individual filters. The filter sections users see (price, beds and baths, property type, and so on) are fixed, and which ones show up depends on what your MLS supports.

Troubleshooting

  • Filter panel isn't showing. Confirm Filter layout is set to Sidebar in the Customizer and that you've published the change.
  • Price histogram is empty. This usually means no listings match your current filters, or your MLS doesn't provide price data for this area. Try broadening the location.
  • Result count stuck at 0. Check that your site has an active MLS integration and that listings are showing up elsewhere on the site.
  • Panel won't open on mobile. Clear your browser cache and confirm JavaScript isn't blocked.
  • Want your old layout back? Go to Filter layout in the Customizer and switch back to Classic.
