How to Verify AI Listing Search is Working

On the Live Site

  1. Open the Listings Search page on your live site.
  2. Confirm that the AI Search button is visible.
  3. Click the button, enter a test prompt (e.g. 2 bedroom homes over $400k), and click Apply Filters.
  4. Verify that filter chips update and the results change accordingly.

In the Customizer

  1. Toggle AI Search off; the button should disappear in the preview.
  2. Toggle it back on and try each placement option to find what works best for your site.
  3. Publish your changes when you're satisfied with the setup.

If Something Fails

If you encounter any issues, here are some common visitor-facing messages you might see:

  • "Rate limit exceeded" — You have made too many AI searches within a short time frame; wait a minute and try again.
  • "Daily AI search limit reached" — Your site's daily cap has been hit; please try again tomorrow.
  • "Unable to apply AI search right now" — This could be a temporary backend or OpenAI issue; retry or use manual filters instead.
  • Be specific about the location. For example, "Condos in South End, Boston" will yield better results than a vague "nice area."
  • Explicitly name property types when relevant. Use terms like condo, townhouse, single family, land, or commercial.
  • Combine constraints naturally in your prompt. For example, include price, beds, and amenities in a single sentence.
  • Start fresh with each search. A new prompt replaces any prior AI-applied filters—repeat any necessary terms.
  • Use manual filters for fine-tuning. AI Search is a great starting point, but it shouldn't replace the full filter panel.
  • Ensure your IDX is healthy. AI Search only filters listings that your MLS integration exposes.
