The homepage hero is the large area at the top of your homepage, with your headline, your buttons and a photo behind them. In Site Edit you change it in the Edit Homepage Hero panel. Your changes go into a draft. Visitors see them after you publish.

Open your homepage hero

  1. Select Dashboard in the top menu.
  2. On the site card, select EDIT SITE. Site Edit opens with your homepage.
  3. Move the pointer over the hero, in the space between the words. A small toolbar appears at its top-left corner.

  1. Homepage Hero: The large area at the top of your homepage. Point at it to show its toolbar.
  2. Customize Homepage Hero: Opens the Edit Homepage Hero panel.

Select Customize Homepage Hero. The Edit Homepage Hero panel opens. It has three tabs: Design, Options and Background.

To change the headline or the other words of the hero, click them on the page and type. For more, see Editing Content on the Page.

Change the hero buttons

The hero has up to three buttons. An empty button place shows Click to add a button.

  1. Move the pointer over a button. A small toolbar appears above it.
  2. Select Customize Homepage Hero on that toolbar. A panel for that one button opens.

  1. First button label: The words on the button.
  2. First button color: The color of the button, from your site colors.
  3. First button style: Solid, Border or Clear.
  4. Page/URL: The page or address the button opens. Select it to choose another.
  5. Open in new tab: Opens the link in a new browser tab.

To add a third button, point at Click to add a button and open its panel the same way. Type a label, then choose a page in Page/URL, or type an address such as https://… or /path in the box under it.

Choose a photo or a slideshow

In the Edit Homepage Hero panel, select the Background tab.

  1. Background type: Single photo, Slideshow or Video.
  2. Photo: The photo behind the hero. Select it to choose another from your Media Library.
  3. Enable overlay on media: Puts a layer of color over the photo so that the words are easier to read.

With the overlay on, you can also choose its Color and its Overlay strength. To remove the photo, select Remove.

To show several photos one after the other, select Slideshow.

  1. Slideshow: Shows a set of photos, one after the other.
  2. Start from template: Replaces your slides with a ready-made set of photos.
  3. Slide 1: The photo of this slide. Select it to choose another from your Media Library.
  4. Remove: Takes this slide out of the slideshow.

The templates are Highland, Interiors, Variety, Luxury Properties, Mid-Priced Homes and Nature. Each slide also has a Caption (optional) box.

Scroll down in the panel to add slides and to set how the slideshow moves.

  1. + ADD SLIDE: Adds a slide at the end of the slideshow.
  2. Animations: How one slide changes to the next: Slide or Fade in.
  3. Transition speed: How fast one slide changes to the next.
  4. Slide timing: How long each slide stays on the screen.

Below these are the Parallax and Zoom on transition switches, and the same media overlay settings as for a single photo.

When you select the photo of a slide, or the photo of a single-photo hero, your Media Library opens.

The Media Library

  1. UPLOAD MEDIA: Adds a photo from your computer.
  2. Search for images: Finds a photo by its name.
  3. SELECT IMAGE: Uses the photo you selected. It is available after you select a photo.

Select a photo, then select SELECT IMAGE. To close the Media Library without a change, select CANCEL.

Video is the third background type. With it you can embed a video, or use a YouTube or Vimeo video, or upload one.

In the Edit Homepage Hero panel, select the Options tab.

  1. Enable homepage hero: Shows or hides the whole hero.
  2. Social Media Links: The networks to show on the hero. Select each one you want.
  3. Header type: A text headline or a header image.
  4. Enable Social Links on Hero: Shows the networks you selected on the hero.
  5. Enable Search Near Me floating button: Shows a round Search Near Me button on the hero.

Use the Search networks box to find a network in the list. You add the links to your social profiles in Site Edit Settings. For more, see Linking Your Social Networks.

When you turn on Enable Search Near Me floating button, the button appears on the hero at once.

  1. Enable Search Near Me floating button: Turned on.
  2. Search Near Me: The button visitors select to search for homes near them.
  3. Draft bar: Shows that your change is in the draft, with Discard and Publish.

To change the look of the Search Near Me button, select the Design tab and scroll down. Choose one of the three badge styles.

The Options tab also has the Enable Search Bar and Enable alternative mobile image switches.

Publish your changes

Each change goes into your draft at once. The draft bar at the bottom of Site Edit shows how many edits the draft has, with Discard and Publish. Close the Edit Homepage Hero panel, then select Publish to show the new hero to visitors, or Discard to undo all of the draft.
