Adding a Custom Banner

A custom banner is a strip across the top of your website with a short message. It can have a button, show on only some pages, and start and stop on dates you choose. In Site Edit you create and change banners in the Edit Banner panel. Your changes go into a draft. Visitors see them after you publish.

Open your banners

  1. Select Dashboard in the top menu.
  2. On the site card, select EDIT SITE. Site Edit opens with your homepage.
  3. Select Add New in the top bar, then select the Lead Capture tab.

The Lead Capture tab of the Add New panel

  1. Add New: Opens the Add New panel.
  2. Lead Capture: Shows the lead capture items you can add.
  3. Banner: Opens the list of your banners.

Select Banner. The Banners list opens. When you have no banner yet, it shows No records yet.

The Banners list

  1. Add New: Creates a new banner and opens it.
  2. Search banners: Finds a banner by its name.

To edit a banner, select its name in the list. To make a new banner, select Add New. Site Edit adds a banner named New Banner to your draft at once. The banner shows across the top of the preview with the words "Add your banner text".

Write the banner

The Edit Banner panel has three tabs: Design, Content and Display Rules. Select the Content tab.

The Content tab of the Edit Banner panel

  1. Banner name: The name of the banner in your lists.
  2. Status: Choose Published, Draft, Private or Scheduled.
  3. Publish date: The date and time the banner starts.
  4. Edit content: Opens the editor for the banner text.
  5. Allow banner to be dismissed: Lets visitors close the banner.
  6. Enable button: Adds a button to the banner.

A new banner starts with the status Draft. Select Edit content to write the message. The Banner text editor opens.

The Banner text editor

  1. Bold: Makes the selected words bold. The buttons next to it add italic, underline, strikethrough, a theme color, or clear the formatting.
  2. Insert link: Turns the selected words into a link.
  3. Expand: Makes the editor larger.
  4. Done: Closes the editor.

Type your message, then select Done (the ×).

To add a button, turn on Enable button. The button settings appear under it.

The button settings of a banner

  1. Color: The color of the button.
  2. Label: The words on the button.
  3. Page/URL: Where the button goes. Choose a page in the list above it, or type a web address.
  4. Open page in new tab: Opens the link in a new browser tab.
  5. Style: Solid, Border or Clear.

Design the banner

Select the Design tab.

  1. Design: Sets the size and color of the banner.
  2. Banner height: Makes the banner smaller or larger: S, M or L.
  3. Select overlay color: The background color of the banner.

Choose where and when it appears

Select the Display Rules tab. The schedule settings appear when you turn on Enable scheduling.

The Display Rules tab with scheduling on

  1. All pages: Shows the banner on every page of your site.
  2. Selected pages: Shows the banner only on the pages you choose.
  3. Exclude certain pages: With All pages, keeps the banner off the pages you choose.
  4. Turn off on mobile: Hides the banner on phones.
  5. Enable scheduling: Shows the banner only between two dates.
  6. Timezone: The time zone of the dates.
  7. Publish Date: The date the banner starts to show.
  8. Expiry Date: The date the banner stops showing.

When you select Selected pages, a Selected pages search box appears. Type in it to find the pages. The Show banner on listings switch also shows the banner on your listing pages.

The time zones in the Timezone list are PST, MST, CST, EST, HAST and AKST.

Publish your banner

Each change goes into your draft. The draft bar at the bottom of Site Edit shows your unpublished changes with Discard and Publish. Before you publish, check the Status on the Content tab. A new banner starts as Draft. Close the Edit Banner panel, then select Publish. Select Discard to undo all of the draft. A new banner that you have not published goes away when you discard.

For more about drafts, see Publishing and Discarding Drafts. To ask visitors for their details in a window over the page, see Creating a Lead Capture Popup.
