How To Get Started with AI Editor

Here's a quick step-by-step guide that walks you through the process of generating changes and publishing your updates using Placester’s AI Editor.

Step 1: Access AI Editor

Log in to your Placester account and select Edit Site next to the website you want to be editing.

Once your website opens in the editor, select Ask AI from the top navigation. You can also select an element directly on the page and click the sparkle button to ask AI to update it.

Step 2: Enter your first prompt

The AI chat panel will open alongside your website. Choose one of the suggested prompts or enter your own instructions in the text field.

Describe what you want to change in your own words. For example:

  • Rewrite my homepage for first-time homebuyers.
  • Update my About page to highlight my local experience.
  • Replace the hero image with a photo of the Boston skyline.
  • Create a neighborhood page for Back Bay.

AI will analyze your request and may ask follow-up questions to better understand the result you want.

For a small update, AI may suggest a single change. For larger or site-wide requests, it may provide several options.

Review the suggestions and select the option you prefer.

Step 3: Review changes on your website

AI Editor will apply the selected change to the website displayed in your workspace. This lets you see how the update will appear before publishing it.

At this stage, the changes are only visible to you. Review the updated content and make sure it meets your expectations.

If you want to make further adjustments, you can continue the conversation with AI or edit individual elements manually using the point-and-click controls.

Step 4: Publishing updates

When everything looks right, select Publish to make the changes visible on your live website.

Why didn't AI make the change I expected?

AI Editor works best with clear and specific instructions. If the result isn’t what you expected, provide more information about what you want to change, where you want to change it and the outcome you want to achieve.

You can continue the conversation with AI and ask it to adjust the result.

Can I undo changes?

Changes are not published automatically. You can review generated updates before publishing and discard them if they don’t meet your expectations.

Once you publish a change, it cannot be automatically reverted. However, you can use AI or the point-and-click controls to update the website again.

Can I ask AI to make multiple changes at once?

Yes. AI Editor can handle requests affecting multiple pages, sections or content types.

Can AI Editor create new pages?

Yes. AI Editor can create area pages, blog posts, landing pages and other website content based on your instructions.

What makes a good prompt?

Effective prompts are specific and provide relevant context. Explain what you want to change, where the change should be made and what outcome you want to achieve.

For example, instead of:

Improve my homepage.

Try:

Rewrite my homepage for first-time homebuyers and emphasize my local expertise in the Boston market.

Can I edit AI-generated content manually?

Yes. The editor lets you move between AI and point-and-click editing in the same workspace.

You can select an element on the page and use the available controls to make manual adjustments. If you need the previous Codeless Customizer, select More from the top navigation and choose Legacy Customizer.

Does AI Editor publish changes automatically?

No. You must review the proposed plan and preview the changes on your website before publishing them. Changes only become visible on your live website after you click Publish.
